生物统计专业OFFER来袭-新东方前途出国

最近收获了一份Tulane University 的生物统计专业的offer。该学生还是前一年自己申请失败，今年转战我们重新申请，本科GPA不足3.0，就在这样的背景条件下，我们顾问老师给学生结合了上次学生自己申请失败的原因，合理设计了申请方案和背景提升方案，终于收获到了辛苦耕耘来的果实！  

 

首先我们先来了解下美国的生物统计专业：  

生物统计学就是用统计方法研究分析生物、医学上的数据，属于一个跨学科专业，跟生物统计信息，尤其是 data mining等关系密切。  

很多学校把生物统计设置在公共健康学院 (School of Public Health ) 里面。也有些学校不单独设置生物统计系，直接设在统计学院项下。  

  

就业前景：  

生物统计的毕业生，不管是硕士还是博士都很好找工作。除了博士毕业生可以作大学教员外，公司里也有很多职位，尤其是制药公司，或者生物科技公司很需要生物统计学家。此外，有的毕业生也进入金融和保险行业。现在生物统计专业还是需求大于供给，所以就业情况很好。  

 

什么样的人可以申请生物统计?  

　　学统计的最合适，其次是数学尤其是应用数学出身的，计算机的也凑合特别是研究data mining的。  

尽管这个专业bio( 生物) 开头，其实需要的生物内容是很少的，即使是要求高的学校，研究生上几门molecular biology之类的入门课程就可以了。这个学科重视 Quantitative skills ，所以纯粹生物或者医学类出身的，反而不特别受欢迎了。

学位: MPH in Biostatistics  

The program is designed for people with  strong quantitative skills  and a background or interest in the  biological, medical, or health sciences.   

该学位为学生拥有很强的数理技能和背景，且对生物，医疗，或健康科学感兴趣的学生设计的。  

背景要求:  

Successful completion of multivariate calculus多元微积分 (Calculus III) and a course in linear algebra 线性代数with a grade of B+ or better. Students with prior, relevant course work may receive academic credit toward their degree program in biostatistics.  

   

GPA 3.5以上，GRE 50% 以上。  

就业前景：Graduates of the MPH program are well positioned for biostatistical analyst positions as part of research teams in government, industry, or academia.  

   

2 Boston University 波士顿大学  

全美综合排名：No 41

学位：MPH in Biostatistics  

专业描述：Biostatistics students learn the quantitative skills to prepare them for collaboration in public health research and surveillance projects that will aid in prevention and treatment of diseases and development of public health policy. The program emphasizes the statistical aspects of research, including study design, data management statistical analysis, and appropriate interpretation of statistical results.

The need has grown substantially in recent years within academic, government, and industry settings, as well as in private health and research organizations.  

  

总结申请生物统计的注意事项：  

   

<!--[if !supportLists]-->1     <!--[endif]-->生物统计专业申请时没有明确的背景要求，但是建议学生本科时有修过一些数学课程，比如微积分，线性代数等。 当然，我们今年录取的学生中就有完全没有学过数学课程的，这个需要具体跟申请院校的导师沟通背景匹配问题。  

<!--[if !supportLists]-->2     <!--[endif]-->生物统计专业对于国际学生需要要求一般是托福100分，有些还会有单项要求，比如Boston University 对托福的四个单项都有不同要求。学生应提前做好相关考试准备。  

<!--[if !supportLists]-->3     <!--[endif]-->生物统计专业基本上都是通过SOPH系统来申请的。一般截止日期在12月1日。而且重要的是，都需要做本科的成绩认证，这个认证周期比较长，建议学生空出1-1.5月时间来做成绩单认证。 所以想要申请生物统计专业的学生，请提前把时间安排好。不要到时因为时间问题，而影响申请。
